Your typical house paints, caulks and adhesives contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that off-gas into your home during the application process and long after everything has dried. VOCs include a variety of chemicals, some of which may have short and long term adverse health effects. Shop for natural, no VOC or low VOC products and read the label carefully! Some certifications only measure the amount of VOCs contained in the product, not the amount that off-gas when it's applied, which is really the health concern.
