Title 24 in California requires 50% of installed lighting in kitchens, and the main lighting in bath and laundry rooms to be high efficacy. Compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) last 10 times as long as incandescent bulbs and use about a 1/4 of the energy. They are widely available now, but pay attention to the temperature and color rendering index (CRI) to get the right light for your home. Warmer colors with a color temperature of 3000k or less and CRI of 80 or above make for more pleasant lighting indoors. High efficacy fixtures are usually available where you can find CFLs.

** TIP OF THE MONTH **

Radiant heating systems are a comfortable way to heat your home and can be energy efficient as well as cost effective - if they are designed properly. Every project is different and your radiant system should be tailored to meet your specific heating needs. There are several options to keep in mind including radiant floors, radiant baseboard heaters and radiant walls.
